• Air Bending: The punch tip acts as a force transmitter. The material "floats" across the die opening, and the resulting radius is typically 16–20% of the V-die opening width, regardless of how sharp the punch is.
• Radius Bending (Bottoming): For specific larger radii, a punch with the desired radius is used alongside a matching radius die or a large V-die. The material is forced to take the shape of the punch tip.
• Springback: Larger radii experience significant springback (the metal's tendency to return to its original shape). To achieve a final R25 bend, you may need a punch with a smaller radius (e.g., R22) to over-bend the material. 

• Radius Punch Inserts: For large, occasional radius bends, shops often use a universal punch holder with interchangeable radius inserts (up to R50 or more), which is more cost-effective than buying a solid.
